LaserSight recently introduced the AstraPro Software as part of our custom ablation technologies. We believe this represents the next level of sophistication in corneal-based custom treatment for complex, surgical induced or natural occurring asymmetrical corneas. LaserSight pioneered the custom ablation technology based on the ellipsoidal corneal modeling and corneal topography. LaserSight AstraPro, a corneal-based technology, has produced phenomenal clinical outcomes and gained substantial recognition momentum in recent years, starting in Europe and now in China.
The AstraPro™ Planner software provides the unique capability to the surgeon to preplan custom surgical treatments for the AstraScan XL™ excimer laser system. AstraPro™ is a refractive surgery planner that utilizes state-of-the-art algorithms to create ablation volumes that can be transferred to the laser system for surgery. This software is the culmination of LaserSight’s research and development on refractive surgery. It utilizes corneal topography, the aspheric ellipsoid model, contact lens fitting, and other features to optimize the surgical ablation for the patient. These algorithms are necessary to provide a treatment basis for irregular astigmatism, decentered treatments, and even regular treatments.
The new AstraPro™ software offers three treatment solutions and a Demo mode:
- Demo Mode: Authorized access to all the AstraPro levels for planning and viewing, does not permit surgeon to save information for export.
- AstraPro Custom P solutions, “P” for Prolate.
- AstraPro Custom Q solutions, “Q” for the corneal asphericity.
- AstraPro Custom Z solutions “Z” for target Z-axis.
The LaserSight AstraPro™ Planner software is intended for use in the CustomEyes™ system to import patient topography information and allow for the planning of customized ablations and save the data to a transportable media (i.e. ZIP, floppy disk, or similar media). This software is intended for use internationally, pending regulatory approvals in the intended countries. This software may also be used domestically in clinical trials or otherwise pending regulatory approvals. The software will allow a licensed ophthalmic surgeon to take imported patient topography, the patient’s refractive error, and additional parameters and plan the tissue volume to be removed by the laser system. This software will not generate the specific shot pattern to be used on the laser system, just the overall volumetric profile to be removed. The laser system itself will determine the shot pattern to best ablate the volume provided. The planner software use is intended only for the laser system from LaserSight Technologies, Inc.
